March 2011

Talk by Police or IAM
Ian Francis had made the offer of organizing a talk by the Institute of Advanced motorists and I was also aware that the Police had given a talk at the Cheshire Club recently. It was thought that this could be o topic for one of our night meetings and will be organised in the future.

Kart Racing
The date being considered for the Karting Challenge was Good Friday the 22nd April. This was not well received by the Blackpool team so I have Contacted Lanc’s region and will arrange a date well ahead nearer the end of the year.

Club Days / Nights
As the Sunday meets at the Fairfield are proving very popular we will keep them going through the summer months and have additional Thursday evening meetings on the second Thursday of the month as well. These Thursday evening meets will be held at the Fairfield Arms. The revised dates will be changed in Sprint magazine as well. The Events Calendar on the Blackpool website will be changed to reflect these new dates as well.

Weekly car show / meet at Fylde Rugby Club.
I have been informed that the people who organised meetings last year at Lowther Gardens and St Annes Square have now got a regular slot on the 2nd Thursday of the month at Fylde rugby club car Park. The meetings start at 6:30 onwards and will be a regular feature through to September. The First meeting is on the 14th April. This will tie in with our mid month meetings should we wish to pop along.

3 Sisters Wigan
Jim and I have our first event on the 17th April and any spectators ( Hecklers ?) will be welcome.

St Georges day on Lytham Green Monday 25th April
We have been asked if we will take our cars on the green to be part of display of all good English things! They will be forwarding me the final details soon which I will e mail and put on the website.

Additional Item
One thing that wasn't mentioned was the GT Cup at Oulton Park on May 14th. I think a few of the Lancs lot will be going down as there should be one or 2 of the Sags racing (incl Danny Winstanley) which has to be worth a look - nice if they could give the Ferraris, etc. a good trouncing but potentially a good day anyway!!

Calendar of Motor sport events

Jim Edwards has posted on the Lanc’s site a list of all the events on this year so if you want to know what’s happening have a look on the link below.

Motorists Pub at Inskip
The Pub used to have a vintage car on the roof a few years ago and was a very popular place. I am told it is in danger of closing and is asking for all the support it can get. They are doing a curry night on Wednesdays and on Thursdays are doing 2 steaks and a bottle of wine for £19.95.
So could be worth a visit.

February 2011

A brilliant turn out of members and three new cars and owners present. Welcome to Bill and Maggi. In their big yellow Chim, Gary in his yellow Tam and Daren in his blue Tuscan. It was great to meet you all and I hope you enjoyed the run out afterwards.

Date for Karting Challenge is not yet fixed as the 20th March date was not suitable for the Lancashire region members who will be away in Wales that weekend. The 3 Sisters have not yet fixed the next date. The cost will be £160 for each team of 4 people, or £40 per person which is less than we have paid at Trax. I will keep you posted on when the event will be.

The Masters Historic festival at Oulton Park on the 12th of March looks like a good day out and features 6 qual’y races and 6 actual races. Tickets are £12 in advance or £16 on the gate. See the attached programme for actual times and classes of races. I will also e mail everyone with the details and propose to leave the from the Tickled Trout at 7:30 am.

Brian Crewes has arranged the “Tour of the Lakes” for Sunday the 17th April. It is usually a really god day out . If you want to go let me know and I will forward the numbers to Brian who will then let me have departure times and routes etc.

Brian is also arranging the Meggarun event and Kirkbride Airfield in conjunction with “Straightliners” who have organised sprint at the airfield on a regular basis. It is a 2 day event and Brian has reserved the Sunday afternoon for TVR’S only. Ther will be proper timing gear with reaction times as well as quarter mile and terminal velocity times recoreded. The cost is about £70 but includes an optional  £5 donation to the Henry Sutees Foundation. Henry being the son of John Surtees who was killed at an early age. This element can be opted out of at the time of booking. The cost also includes the Kilbride MEGGA LUNCH! Which those who have been before can vouch for being excellent. Again please let me know if you would be interested and I will let Brian know approximate numbers. It is a very good day out.

January 2011

Presentation of cheque to Cancer Research and January meeting
After the photo  shoot at yesterday’s meeting Sarah Mc Phee, from Cancer Research, went inside with the intention of addressing us all and thanking us for the money raised. However in true Blackpool style we all did our own thing and went here there and everywhere and she did not get the opportunity to talk to us all together.  Sarah explained to those present that she herself was diagnosed with Cancer when she was 23. The cancer resulted in her having a prosthetic leg and receiving courses of chemotherapy. This must have been hard for her as she was at that time playing net ball for Lancashire and G.B.  This changed Sarah’s life and it was because of this she became involved with Cancer Research and now travels all over the North of England helping to raise money for the Charity. She has now resumed her sporting career and plays for Great Britain Ladies in the wheelchair basketball team, and is hoping to compete in the 2012 Olympics.

Sarah is the fourth from the left in the above photo.

Other announcements made at the meeting were an invite to a car meeting on Lytham green on Monday the 25th of April plus we have been asked to take our cars to the Myerscough open day in June.

Heath is arranging for a visit to the Submarine manufacturers and helicopter hanger for a date in February to be advised.

Dave Hothersall advised us that the TVR Day at Oulton Park in September is now cancelled so we need to find some other event which the Blackpool Region can make their main event for 2011.

Last but by no means least Russ and I want to thank you again for the generous gifts you presented to us for our efforts in 2010. It is not necessary to do this as we would both do the jobs for the pleasure it gives us anyway.
