Leighton Hall car show 11 July 10
A trip to Leighton Hall car show near Carnforth on the 11th of July
saw four cars out for the run up the A6 from Preston. It was a pleasant
change to go to the Southern Lake District by this route instead of the
usual blast up the M6. As you can see on the photo's , courtesy of
Carol Wals, there was a very good turnout of all types of cars and
motor bikes.
The weather improved as the day went on. Rob Briggs stated it never
rains when there is stock car racing on at Wharton "and he was right.
We had the added bonus of a look round the gardens, which were free to
view, and the Hall itself which was well worth the £3:00 entry fee. Our
guide was very knowledgeable and we are all now experts in the history
of the Gillow family, the furniture makers! from Lancaster. Bet you
didn't know the first Gillow was a local lad born in Singleton
The award for best in show went to a very nice red Hilman Imp. It was
good but didn't "float Carols boat" so no photo I'm afraid
Hope you like the photo of Rob with the star of the "Meercats .com" advert Ok then....... its actually a ferret! which he refused to put
in his trousers on the grounds it could have been to exciting!
