2011 Calendar 28 March 10

Dave Cahill has kindly offered to put the 2011 club calendar together which he plans to start doing at the end of September. So don't forget to do some calendar type pictures at this years events or on any of your own trips. The higher quality/resolution/size of the picture the better.

He is looking for

1. Car shots (single or groups) suitable for use as the main monthly picture.

2. Shots of parts, items or interesting angles for a montage or insertion into larger pictures.

Top Gear @ TVR Factory 25 March 10

Yesterday (24/3/10) Top Gear were at the TVR Factory site filming one of their challenges. It features a TVR S2, Lotus Elan SE and a Healey 2000. Presumably the challenge was to show that a classic British sports car is not very practical for going to the local garden center in (they were apparently filming at Dobbies Garden Center near Preston earlier in the day), the Healey had a tree in it, the Elan a collection of garden ornaments and the S2 a shed on the roof. For more pictures visit the TVRmonster web site.

Silverstone Classic 9 Feb 10

Find below some information from Paul Wilson

Extensive changes have been made to the Silverstone circuit to accommodate the Moto Grand Prix and the F1 Grand Prix in 2010. For example, the footbridge across the start straight into the paddock has gone. These changes have reduced the availability of space for car club stands. Add to this a 50% increase in the number of car clubs wanting to attend and we have a serious space problem. The Buy One Get One Free ticket offer may be withdrawn at the end of March. Indeed, all the available display areas may be sold out by the end of March.

My advice is: If you want to go, BOOK NOW!

TVR Reborn? 22 Feb 10

Reports on the main TVR Car Club site and PistonHeads both mention rumours about a new TVR launch at Goodwood later this year. Rumoured to be powered by an American V8 with 500+hp and costing approx. £70k and to be built in Germany.

This follows on from an update to the official TVR web site in the last couple of weeks which has a message about a new web site launching soon.

Barbon Hill Climb 4 Feb 10

I've just added another motor sport event to the calendar. The information is from Bob Cuthbertson :

The event - Barbon Hill Climb - on Sat 08th May 2010.
This is a "National A" event - attended by the serious hill-climbers.
(But I'm sure Welly and Jim W could enter the Tas??)

Barbon is just north of Kirkby Lonsdale - off the Sedburgh road.
The track is @ 1/2 mile long, and viewing from the top of the climb is pretty good, for 90% of the track.
One problem when I last went in wettish weather - public parking is in a roughish field, and it may be better suited to my Volvo estate than the TVR.

Take a picnic, plus chair ...... a good day out.

Details are on Westmorland Motor Club web-site. There will be more info nearer the time.
