Meeting at the Kingfisher from 7:30 onwards.
The first meeting of 2018 was one of the best attended in a long while with 20 members present at various times throughout the evening. The banter flowed well and Keith Malpus commented you have to shout to make yourself heard!
A BIG WELCOME to Dave and Sue who came across from Goosnargh to see us for the first time. Dave was armed with many photo’s of their new 350i wedge, which is currently in at his friends garage for a few small jobs. The photo’s looked very good and I am looking forward to seeing it in the flesh.
After a couple of small announcements regarding cancellation of the N.W. Stages rally in February and the Autosport event at the NEC this weekend we discussed the possibility of Joining the South Yorkshire TVRCC Isle of Man Tour on the 6/10th July. Details are shown below: -
If you are interested in going let me know and I will contact them and make arrangements for you.
We then talked about the resurfacing of the 3 Sisters track at Wigan which Heath has seen on the Internet, this lead to the suggestion of an evening karting under the lights. Dave then mentioned there is a new indoor track opening in Bamber Bridge which could be a better venue in the current weather. Heath immediately sent them an e mail asking for details of when they will be open. Don’t yet know the outcome of e mail.
However, a cunning plan has been formed! As Baldrick would say. Two teams of drivers (a mixture of Male and females) from the Blackpool region could have a return Challenge match with the Lancashire Region, and or Cheshire Regions in the Spring. BUT not before some “sneeky” practice to learn the track for the Blackpool members.
So, come on all you folks lets see how many would like to have a go at this and let Heath or I know if you are up for it. I know we have a few ex Kart racers hidden away in the Blackpool club so dust of your helmets, so to speak!
A couple of updates for the diary
The North West stages Rally normally runs in February and is based in the Norbreck Hydro. It is not taking place this year as the organisers are focussing on 2019 when they expect to run a number of stages on closed public roads.
The Autosport show is being held at the NEC Birmingham from the 11th to 14th of Jan if anyone is interested in going. A standard including the live arena cost £33 on line from
Heath made arrangements for the 3 Speed Championship Blackpool entrants cars to be weighed and run on the rolling road at Blackpool &Fylde Technical College. This is a championship regulation requirement to establish the power to weight ratio.
The first thing the students and lecturers did was to inspect the cars which was more nerve wracking than normal scrutineering, it was like an MOT! Not surprising though as the cars exceeded 100 mph in 4th gear on the rollers. Lots of good questions raised by the students about power, gearing etc.
Next the students weighed the cars with and without the drivers, Bill and I think Heaths car must be made from “unobtainium” The weights of the cars with 10kg of fuel on board were: -
Heaths Briggs 4.5 L Chimeara 1007kg!!
Bill Campion 2.9 L “S” 996kg
Dave Welton 5 L Tasmin 1032kg
The weighing was followed by 3 runs each on the rolling road which produced the following : -
Heath bhp at wheels 221 (At flywheel) 258 ~ Torque at wheels 246
Bill bhp at wheels 125 (At flywheel) 150 ~ Torque at wheels 125
Dave bhp at wheels 251 (At flywheel) 287 ~ Torque at wheels 266
A fantastic day at the college which is superbly equipped and a huge thanks to the Staff and students for all the work they did.
Christmas run out to Shackletons at Clitheroe now fixed as Wednesday 27th December. Meet up at Tickled trout at 10:00 and pick up others at Mc Donalds on A59 about 10:20

Leigh & Sue
Heath and I went to the TVR Speed Championship / Classic Marques dinner held in Coventry. The Charity supported this year was Marfan which is a genetic disorder that affects the body’s connective tissue. Connective tissue holds all the body’s cells, organs and tissue together. It also plays an important role in helping the body grow and develop properly.
One of our fellow competitors Richard Bream is affected by this genetic disorder. Money was donated by a number of means including Giving £1 for every point you scored in the Championship. This raised over £1,100. An auction was held and Bill Campion donated a Petronas Cap signed by Lewis Hamilton which has currently achieved £250. A framed flyer of the New Griffith was signed by Les Edgar, Martin Lilly, and other celebrities at the NEC Show in November. These two items raised a further £850. So a big thanks to Bill And Heath Briggs for the kind donations.
