The first thing the students and lecturers did was to inspect the cars which was more nerve wracking than normal scrutineering, it was like an MOT! Not surprising though as the cars exceeded 100 mph in 4th gear on the rollers. Lots of good questions raised by the students about power, gearing etc.
Next the students weighed the cars with and without the drivers, Bill and I think Heaths car must be made from “unobtainium” The weights of the cars with 10kg of fuel on board were: -
Heaths Briggs 4.5 L Chimeara 1007kg!!
Bill Campion 2.9 L “S” 996kg
Dave Welton 5 L Tasmin 1032kg
The weighing was followed by 3 runs each on the rolling road which produced the following : -
Heath bhp at wheels 221 (At flywheel) 258 ~ Torque at wheels 246
Bill bhp at wheels 125 (At flywheel) 150 ~ Torque at wheels 125
Dave bhp at wheels 251 (At flywheel) 287 ~ Torque at wheels 266
A fantastic day at the college which is superbly equipped and a huge thanks to the Staff and students for all the work they did.
