Race Car 4 April 11

Tank and plumbing all finished.

Oil system plumbed.

Rear driveshaft done.

New carb on car.

Lots of little unseen bits here and there.

Currently curing the binding of driveshafts under full droop by taking up some limiting straps.

I will be out this year.

Dads Car 4 April 11

Diff now installed, painted, rebuilt, new breather.

Suspension all built up on rear.

Front being built up.

Cage all in.

All powder coating done to chassis.

Dads car 10 Sept 10

Neil is also helping his dad to restore his Vixan S2.

"It was bought approx 3 years ago from a fella in Bolton where it had lay under a tarp for 20 plus years after a rear end shunt. we bought it for a rainy day. Now that the racer is much further along and only waiting for Mr Reid to supply a wiring loom we decided to get cracking. We reckon we can build up a whole car before john finishes the loom for the racer.

Car is being built onto a new chassis, we are using a new 2.0 Black top Zetec, close ratio type 9 5 speed and a cosworth diff. car is running a set of custom rear uprights with M type brand new hubs.

Bodywork is dads department. he has completely stripped the internal and externals and has grafted on a set of wider arches. he has also grafted in a different rear since we want to use the MK1 cortina earlier rear lamps. he then has completely re-laminated the bodywork.

It should be a very nice road car when finished with about 180hp but very docile road manners. "

More progress has ben made on Neil's race car.

Anyone want to buy a second hand TVR chassis? Surface rust only, easily fixed honest guv!!

Steering and Cooling 6 April 10

Some more work has been carried out on the race car and support vehicle.

The race car has now had new rose jointed steering mounts welded in. It has also had the fans and radiator mounted along with the oil cooler being mounted in front of the steering rack and behind the radiator.

The support vehicle is now almost finished, just needing its sidepipes and 10x15 American racing wheels to finish the outside

Support Vehicle Repaint 29 Jan 10

Neil has now got his support vehicle back after being sprayed its new colour.

Things are still ticking over but the credit crunch has slowed progress this year.

Steering rack has been mounted and finished. Just some track rod ends to identify and source (nothing is standard on this car).

The Anti-roll bar is now also mounted and finished. It's 1" and will run behind the alloy radiator.

The front alternator is a 55amp from a VW Polo of all things but fits the space available. This has now been finally mounted.

Prop and rear drive shafts sourced from NW prop shafts should be thick enough.

The new race van has also been found and stripped ready for painting. It is going to be painted the same colour as the race car in the next 2 weks.
